Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones and Project Executive Director Ian Christopher Alfonso signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) in generating and distributing Project Saysay prints to various DepEd schools. This took place at the DepEd Secretary’s Office at Meralco, Pasig City on 7 February 2019.

Serving as witnesses were DepEd Undersecretary for Legislative Liaison Office, External Partnerships Service and School Sports Tonisito Umali and Philippine Historical Association (PHA) President and University of the Philippines Diliman Professor Emeritus Ma. Luisa T. Camagay. Also in attendance were PHA Vice-President and De La Salle University History Professor Fernando A. Santiago, Jr., PHA Secretary and Valenzuela City Museum Curator Jonathan C. Balsamo, PHA Treasurer and University of Santo Tomas History Professor Arlene Calara, and PHA Board Members Teodoro Kalaw IV of Ateneo de Manila University, Gloria Melencio of UP Los Baños, and Evelyn Miranda of UP Diliman (retired).

Secretary Briones has vowed to support the mission of Project Saysay to spread the ideals and values of great Filipinos to Philippine schools through prints for free. This is in consonance with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s order to replace his portrait and of other government officials with those of the Philippine heroes.

DepEd Usec. Umali has promised to introduce Project Saysay print project to the department’s partners. Meanwhile, DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla has vowed to explore the possibilities for DepEd to allocate budget for the production of the Project Saysay prints to reach more schools possible.
